What do the Food Hygiene Rating Mean?
What are Food Hygiene Ratings?
Food hygiene ratings are ratings or scores that are given to any business that is directly associated with the selling, producing or handling of food. These scores are created by local authority inspections and are associated with that business on a scale of 0-5.
Each comprehensive score has 3 categories that it's broken down into. The first is Hygienic food handling, this determines how hygienic the business is whilst it prepares, cooks and stores food produce. Secondly is the condition of the facility, this determines how clean the venue is, along with other factors like hand washing facilities and pest control. The final category is the management of food safety. This is determined by checking the procedure the business has around food safety, the standards they obtain and whether or not their food is safe to serve and eat.
Food hygiene ratings are a useful guide to consumers, which will help you choose where to eat out or shop for food. The ratings give a clear and quick indication of businesses hygiene standards. But what do all the scores mean?
